Before the introduction of professional bicycle lights, many people liked to use strong flashlights as lighting tools. But after all, a strong flashlight is a flashlight. Its originally designed lighting purposes were mainly for hiking, household emergency lighting, and backup flashlights in the car. Strong light flashlights have their unique characteristics. Generally, they use a glossy spotlight cup to concentrate light. When illuminated, the center brightness is high, with a clear central bright spot. The central bright spot is relatively small, and some of them can achieve a diameter of 0.5 meters when illuminated at a distance of 20 meters. At the same time, due to the lack of a clear cut-off line, the floodlight emitted towards high places can make the person on the other side feel very dazzling. The beam of a flashlight is very concentrated, especially the brightness of the middle spot can reach a very dazzling level (many bright flashlights on the market can achieve this); In other words, the bright area is very bright, but the area is small, and the surrounding dark areas are very dark; Not only is it difficult to see the reflection of objects clearly, but the strong contrast between light and dark can easily cause dazzling and dangerous situations. Imagine meeting a car on a narrow road, and the dazzling bright light catches the driver's eye, causing them to be unable to correctly determine your position. Is the consequences unimaginable?

Most strong light flashlights use an 18650 battery, and according to its lighting purpose, there is not a high requirement for seismic performance. The device used to fix the battery is a spring, which has a problem with poor contact with the battery when encountering high vibrations, causing a jump gear (some riders have already encountered situations where the flashlight suddenly turns off when jumping gear on bumpy roads). The above characteristics indicate that bright flashlights are not the best choice for nighttime cycling lighting.

The requirement for lighting during nighttime cycling is to have good floodlight, large light spots, and not to shine too far. When in low light, a large area should be illuminated, and there should be a clear cut-off line to prevent interference with incoming vehicles. The requirement for equipment is to have high seismic performance, as cycling may encounter uneven and bumpy roads. If the seismic performance is not good, suddenly shifting gears can easily cause danger. And it is possible to use it in heavy rain environments, so it also requires certain waterproof performance.

Only a few countries in the world have standardized their bicycle lights, and Germany is the most thoroughly implemented country. To comply with German regulations, there are several things to pay attention to: the car lights must not have a flashing function, and the car lights must have a low battery display.

So there are two parts that are most difficult to design for German standard car lights, the cut-off line and the uniform distribution of the beam. Early tungsten filament bulbs could easily comply with regulations by choosing standard reflective cups and lenses, but LEDs would reshuffle the high-end bicycle light industry. At present, there are units in Taiwan with German LED headlight optical design capabilities, such as Vehicle Testing Center and Dengguan Technology. Overseas units include CROPS, Busch&Muller, inoled, and Spanninga. In China, there are Laitaihui and Tank007, but as for most other light manufacturers, they use optical components such as lenses or reflective cups from other manufacturers to design their lights, which cannot comply with regulations. This is why currently only a few light manufacturers in the market have German standard light products.
